We call on ICE to immediately halt the pilot program testing a new surveillance device on our Colorado communities. On May 11th, Denver 7 released an article titled, “ICE testing new immigrant surveillance device in Denver,” detailing the troubling new program and concerns from advocates and immigrants.
While ICE calls this watch an “alternative to detention”, it is being forced upon people who are not detained and are attending ALL of their regularly scheduled court hearings and check-ins. The BI Veri Watch is invasive and unnecessary. Instead of devoting more resources towards surveillance, our tax dollars should go to effective, low-cost programs designed to provide legal representation, due process and integration services.
