With the increase in immigration enforcement, ICE’s excessive use of force has been repeatedly documented. The Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition’s Keep Families Together Campaign Manager says, “Just in Colorado, we’ve seen ICE agents pepper-spray protestors in the face. We’ve seen ICE drag elderly women on the ground.” CIRC continues to hold Know Your Rights trainings, encouraging community members to stay informed of their rights during ICE encounters. The organization also documents stories of people impacted by detention in addition to the Colorado Rapid Response Network hotline where people can report ICE incidents. “All we can do is be calm and de-escalate, but I think that what we already know is that law enforcement, including ICE, can still harm us and use lethal force,” says CIRC Keep Families Together Campaign Manager. “This should not, and it will not, stop us from exerting our right to peacefully protest and our right to stand up and protect our neighbors.” Read more about this here.
