Amidst a wave of anti-immigrant resolutions across Colorado, we find some hope in the recent rejections of these measures in Weld County & Montrose. These actions are reactionary and, fortunately, hold little weight or enforceability. However, the impact of passing anti-immigrant resolutions should not be taken lightly – these actions send a chilling message to immigrants – both new and old – that they are unwelcome and push people further into the shadows. We celebrate these victories – especially in rural Colorado where the immigrant community faces increased attacks and xenophobia. Community members in Montrose showed up in large numbers to oppose the anti-immigrant measure, which led to its defeat. We will continue to stand up against these attacks on the immigrant community.
