Secondary (Vicarious) Trauma Workshop

February 21 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Are you a volunteer, counselor or teacher who hears trauma other people experience? Do you volunteer your time to help other people that have experienced extreme traumas like deportation, migration, a car accident, or even someone who witnessed a crime or accident? Have you ever felt like you just do not have the energy, physically or mentally, to help others even though you want to? You may be experiencing secondary or vicarious trauma. Vicarious trauma is the emotional residue of exposure that people working in helping professions have from working with people as they are hearing their trauma stories and become witnesses to the pain, fear, and terror that trauma survivors have endured. If you believe you are experiencing secondary trauma or would just like to learn more about what it is and how to combat the symptoms, please join AFSC and Casa de Paz on February 21st at 6:30 PM! We will be discussing what secondary trauma is, why it occurs, symptoms, and coping strategies to deal with the symptoms. Secondary trauma happens often, come learn the best ways to take care of yourself and reduce the possibility of it occurring! https://www.facebook.com/events/557853521354552/
