The Immigrant Legal Resource Center is a State Bar of California approved MCLE provider. We will provide a Certificate of Attendance for California MCLE to anyone licensed in California and Uniform Certificate of Attendance to non-California licensed attorneys.
Day 1 Outline
This training will begin with an overview of the legal elements for naturalization and red flag issues that can cause an applicant to be denied or even deported. We will then discuss fee waivers and changing fee waiver policies. Next we will cover how to obtain records through FOIA and other record requests. We will end with a discussion of the accreditation process and resources.
Day 2 Outline
The second day will include an in-depth discussion of non-crime good moral character issues, including recent trends in adjudication and how to handle negative discretionary factors. We will end with a roundtable discussion of naturalization hot topics and practice tips.
Who can attend?
This training is FREE for participating staff from nonprofit organizations working on naturalization and citizenship issues and their dedicated volunteer attorneys. All participants will receive a free electronic version of the ILRC’s popular publication, Naturalization and U.S. Citizenship: The Essential Legal Guide, 15th Edition.
